About Tanina

Ours is a future worth building together.

Tanina means “ours” in Juba Arabic. It is both our name and our invitation: to see the worth in one another and in the world we share.

Our philosophy

Nothing and no one is disposable.

Too often, people and materials are treated as if their value has run out. We believe the opposite. With access to learning, dignified work and the chance to participate, what is overlooked can become a source of possibility.

Rooted in South Sudan and led by young people, Tanina connects environmental action with human opportunity. We work at the intersection of education, skills, circular economy and community action—because these challenges, and their answers, are connected.

Our vision

A circular and sustainable society with improved waste management and dignified livelihoods.

Our mission

Create dignified jobs for waste collectors, provide environmental education and practical skills, and nurture a more sustainable environment through the proposed Wasaka Innovation Center and community action.

What guides us

Dignity is not an outcome. It is the starting point.

01

Belonging

People know their communities best. We believe meaningful solutions begin by listening to local voices, respecting lived experiences and creating opportunities for people to participate in decisions that affect them.

02

Resourcefulness

We recognize potential in people, skills, materials and ideas that others may overlook. By encouraging learning and innovation, we seek to turn that potential into practical opportunities.

03

Shared Responsibility

A healthier environment and stronger livelihoods require collective effort. We believe communities, young people, institutions and partners all have a role to play in building a more sustainable future.

Our theory of change

From disposability to dignity.

1

See

Recognize people, materials and potential that have been overlooked.

2

Equip

Build education, skills and community-led systems that open doors.

3

Create

Connect those capabilities to safer work, livelihoods and circular value.

4

Grow

Learn from what changes and strengthen pathways that communities can sustain.

Make it ours

A better future is something we build together.
